Located in the scenic Willamette Valley of Oregon, Clackamas County is part of the Portland Metropolitan area and home to some 376,000 Oregonians. Clackamas County is bordered by Multnomah County to the north, Hood River County, Wasco County, Marion County, Yamhill County, and Washington County. 

Oregon City serves as the county seat and is noted for being the first city west of the Rocky Mountains to be incorporated, as well as being the first capital of Oregon and the terminus of the Oregon Trail. Clackamas County, or Clackamas District as it was originally known, once covered an area that spans portions of current boundaries of 4 states and a province of Canada.

Clackamas County includes 16 cities, some of which are also part of Multnomah County and Washington County. The cities of Clackamas County include Barlow, Canby, Estacada, Gladstone, Happy Valley, Johnson City, Lake Oswego, Milwaukie, Molalla, Oregon City, Portland, Rivergrove, Sandy, Tualatin, West Linn, and Wilsonville. There are also 4 hamlets - Beavercreek, Molalla Prairie, Mulino, and Stafford, along with the Villages at Mount Hood. In addition, there are 41 incorporated communities.

Shopping & Dining in Clackamas County

Clackamas County is filled with outstanding shopping and dining options. Located in the unincorporated area of Clackamas is the Clackamas Town Center. The mall houses 185 stores and services in over 1.2 million square feet of shopping space, and is anchored by J.C. Penney, Macy’s, Nordstrom, and Sears. In Tualatin, you’ll find the upscale Bridgeport Village, which features a number of fine retailers, services, and dining options such as The Apple Store, Crate & Barrel, Oregon Craft Spirits, along with California Pizza Kitchen, Sinju Japanese Restaurant, and Native Foods Café, to name a few.

There’s a fantastic array of great places to eat in Clackamas County. One of the best restaurants in Wilsonville and Lake Oswego is Oswego Grill, with a location in each city, featuring your classic American menu items. Lake Oswego, being an affluent city, is home to a number of fine restaurants. The city’s proximity to Interstate 5 makes it all the more convenient to access restaurants like Stanford’s, Tavern on Kruse, or deeper in Lake Oswego near the lake at Clarke's Restaurant BarBaird's on B Bar & Grill, and Five Spice Seafood + Wine Bar. Or if you want to dine with a close-up view of majestic Mt. Hood, you can visit a number of restaurants in Government Camp, such as Ratskeller, Mt. Hood Brewing Company, or Charlie's Mountain View. And this is not to mention the vast array of great dining in Portland.

Parks & Recreation in Clackamas County

Clackamas County is a recreational paradise. Whether it be skiing or hiking on Mt. Hood, camping, fishing, or enjoying the various city parks, there’s something for everyone. Mt. Hood is one of the prime spots in Clackamas County, indeed all of Oregon, for recreational activities. Mt. Hood Skibowl is where skiers from all over the Pacific Northwest come to enjoy skiing and snowboarding during the winter months. And the fun doesn’t stop when summer comes.  They have an adventure park with 20 attractions that includes the only alpine slide in the northwest along with an extreme water park. Mt. Hood is also popular with mountain climbers and hikers.

The cities and communities in Clackamas County also feature their own array of great parks. In Tualatin, you’ll find over 200 acres of beautiful parks to enjoy for a wide array of activities, including Brown's Ferry Park, Little Woodrose Nature Park, and Tualatin Commons Park. Near Estacada and Mt. Hood, the Clackamas River flows through Milo McIver State Park, and outstanding location for a wide variety of outdoor activities. Visitors to the park enjoy camping, hiking, horse riding, boating, exploring nature, and disc golf.  The park is also the location of the Clackamas Fish Hatchery, where you can tour the hatchery and explore the life cycle of Chinook salmon and Steelhead.
